Full Compliance

The 2004-2005 Undergraduate and Graduate Catalog published by Georgia Southern University indicates that undergraduate students may only take courses numbered 5000G-5999G for graduate credit. Courses numbered 6000-9999 are restricted solely to graduate students. Furthermore, the Catalog indicates that courses numbered 9000-9999 are open to doctoral students only (p. 238). The Catalog also describes the course numbering system as follows: “In general, the first digit of the course corresponds to the level of the class (1-Freshman; 2-Sophomore; 3-Junior; 4-Senior; 5-dual Undergraduate/Graduate; 6-Lower Division Graduate; 7-Upper Division Graduate; 8-Upper Division Graduate; 9-Doctoral Level Graduate).”

Additionally, all course changes, additions, and/or deletions to the graduate curriculum must satisfactorily pass review and approval at several levels within the University, commencing with the departmental curriculum committee. From there, recommendations are forwarded to the college curriculum committee, and, if approved, on to the University's Graduate Committee —a standing committee of the Faculty Senate. As shown on the Georgia Southern University Course Revision Form , the Graduate Committee examines a variety of information in its deliberations including specific course content and course level. Once proposed changes are approved by the Graduate Committee, they are forwarded to the Faculty Senate for consideration by that body. Following approval at this level, items are forwarded to the Provost and Vice President for review and approval, and then to the President for review and approval.
